As part of its Blueprint for Movement Building, Zero Waste Europe shines a light on zero waste alliances across Europe, sharing their stories, journeys, and lived experiences. This initiative captures how local movements grow, collaborate, and create impact, and this is where our story at Zero Waste Alliance Cyprus comes in.
Sara Mariza Vryonidi from the Zero Waste Alliance Cyprus shares the story of the Alliance, from its foundation to its current achievements, challenges, and lessons learned along the way. The story reflects on key milestones that have shaped our journey, including successful initiatives such as the Zero Trace Festival, as well as recent advocacy wins, like action taken on Carnival spray cans.
At the same time, it openly addresses the ongoing challenges of building and sustaining a community-driven movement, from coordination and resources to maintaining momentum over time. These experiences highlight the importance of collaboration, persistence, and collective action in advancing a zero waste vision in Cyprus.
